An Overwhelming Step

As said in the previous post, I have graduated and will be registering for classes very soon. My mom attempted to explain the process to me but I was confused. I guess I just expected this type of knowledge to be innate or just to come to me with my diploma. Surprise! It didn't. It's beginning to hit me that life is software that's preinstalled. It comes at you fast and most likely you're not prepared.
But it's that way for everyone right? Maybe everyone else is just better at acting like they know what they're doing than I am. Because the way I recall, it seemed completely instinctive when I watched others deal with Life. Maybe not, maybe I'm just a little overwhelmed with so many decisions coming at me so quickly.
The choices I make in a month are supposed to help mold my source of income for the rest of my life. No biggie. I got this...I was born for this.

The Diplomas are in.

It is official. I'm a highschool graduate. I have my diploma, fortunately endorsed with a nice scholarship and I register for my college classes in a couple of months. Call me cheesy, but I do actually feel older. Maybe sitting through that long ceremony aged me. I'll never know, but I do know that I have no idea what is going to happen in the years ahead. I am confident that my school prepared me for whatever college will hand me and that my the friends I have made will last despite the distance.

I was thrilled to have my family there and even more thrilled about the student bdy I'd be sharing this occasion with. Now it is time for us to take what our school gave us and apply it I suppose. Atleast that's what they tell us. How many of us will actually "change the world" (as they told us to) I'm not sure. I know we are certainly capable and will give it a good hard try. Thirteen years of school for that moment-and it was awesome. Now it's time for me to send out the thank you cards to the people who wanted to help finance the changes I'm to make in the world.

It's on His Face

Look closer..

My boyfriend had been talking about finally growing a "beard" for months. I would always just shake my head and say "No, you're not." Well, he did -kind of.

The interesting thing about us is that we have seen each other grow up in the last four years. We entered high school with baby faces and weird proportions, and now here we are at the end. We've finally grown into our shells. But now my boyfriend has grown into his shell and out of his face.

He is trying to take on a more "manly" appearance and see "what he can do with it". What he did was attempt the goatee. That day he said "Hey, look at my face." I looked and had too look a little closer. The cute thing about his facial hair is it's blonde. The hair on his head is brown. So naturally, it looks a little...odd or as he says, "it's unique." And that's why I love him. He just wants to be himself...excuse me.."manly".

He's so proud of it. Boys will be boys and If this is the worst he'll do to be more "manly", that's alright with me.

Bring on the goatees!

18 going on 50

I'v recently been told that I'm too old for my age. I have realized that this just may be true 2 hours ago.

I was raised in a home where everyone pulls their own weight. With age comes more responsibilities and the expectations are raised. I am not saying this is how it should be. I would've enjoyed my earlier teen years more if I got to go out instead of being grounded for not folding the towels ( yes it has happened). But it has helped me to be more dependable and an all-around better worker in my job. I'm always on time, I'm always working, and I always answer for any error I make. I am also the person they always call when they're short-handed, need help with the figures, or want me to cover for them. It's sad to say that I'm the only one willing to show up and help.

I'm going to age 30 years when I say this: What is wrong with kids today!? I can count how many friends that I've gotten jobs on two hands. None of them are currently employed. All but one were fired. They just did not care. Their parents gave them cash, cars, and clothes; so why bother? I guess if it were that way for me I may not care AS much, but my parents taught me to have pride in the things I do and to do it right or not at all. I cannot tell you how many times my mother has made me re-mop an entire floor because I missed 2 spots. She prepared me for this.

Which brings me back to me realizing how old I was for my age. A cashier called in tonight for tomorrow's shift. She had had this schedule for over a week. She made a hair appointment today for the time her shift started tomorrow. She wont be able to make any of her shift because of her hair appointment. Call me crazy, but when does it take 6 hours to get your hair done?

Kids these days.

My Life..Chaotic

These last couple of weeks have been insane to say the least. I have so much on my plate; the only thing I can think is: if I survive this next week, I'll be okay. It seems like I have no time to stop and breathe. I've been cast in a lead role in A Mid-Summer Night's Dream and I still have work and school. School hasn't been getting the needed attention lately and mid-term exams are this week. I really only have to study for 3 of my 6 classes. But these classes are not going to have easy mid-terms. The last couple of weeks, if I wasn't at rehearsals- I was at work. I've also been running myself crazy for Christmas and other family activities. I really need a break.

After mid-terms, I get two weeks. The only stressful thing I have to deal with is work and being away from my other half for four days..possibly including Christmas. I wont be happy if this is the case. I'm ready for this week to be over..but I can't bomb these tests! I have to more days to study.

Let the countdown begin..

The Senior Shakespearience

Early in our educational careers we hear about this wonderful playwright and poet called William Shakespeare. In middle school you read a few sonnets and if your lucky you dive into one of his tragedies (complete with footnotes of course!). But you're never quiet prepared when senior year rolls around and it's like a Shakespeare bomb blew up in the hallways. This is even more true if you're in drama.
I never was a Shakespeare fanatic. I never understood what all the commotion was about. He was just a prematurely balding man that added too many unnecessary syllables onto words. This year, Billy threw himself upon me and forced me to indulge in his work...and like it. It is four months into the school year and in between two classes I have: read 5 Shakespearean sonnets, watched Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare in Love (not by him..I know) and seen a performance of Romeo and Juliet. I have a copy of Much Ado About Nothing that I will crack tomorrow for English and then we will proceed to read Hamlet, Macbeth, Twelfth night, and a few others.
Next week I have an audition for A Midsummer Night's Dream and if cast, I will be MEMORIZING Shakespeare. It's official; I can't escape him. It's obvious that Shakespeare and I are meant to be together...for this year at least.

Tic Toc...

By now, I have heard the word college more times than a, an, and the. I've worked hard, but that doesn't change where I will be attending college. My mom just got finished shelling out money for my sister who will graduate in two weeks, so I'm stuck here. If I attend the university she wants me to, my tuition will be paid for with scholarships. I don't mind. I understand. This school has an excellent science department which is what I need for my career path. I know I'll have enough on my plate with school and a job.

Besides, I honestly don't mind staying here. It's my home and I do better with familiarity. My family, my home, and some of my friends will still be here. I really don't think I'm ready to grow up and move too far away. But, I do get a little green when I see my friends getting accepted in prestigious schools far, far away. Maybe I'll have better luck with my graduate school. Who knows? So don't worry Shreveport, I'll be with you for atleast four more years.
